I took up this transition role with 3 main objectives1) Execute a seamless transfer of production from our in house workshop, to the parts being produced by sub-contractors, with no loss of production, quality, and disruption to our customers. I fostered a good relationship with the sub-contractors giving them all the information they needed and visited them on the completion of each new product to check and give feedback to them.I also carried on overseeing the whole life process of new designs, quotations, prototyping and cost management for all our product production.2) I evaluated the existing Processes of the business, I designed and implemented a new bespoke stock control system, with an integrated costing report. With these in place the company saw a 40% increase in correct weekly stock checks and a rise of 30% in weekly production charges. I also collaborated on a new computer system that serviced the 3 companies involved in the supply chain, integrating my stock system into their system. With in 2 months of implementation we had completed all updates and completed 3 weeks of production with no issues.3) Expand my knowledge of SolidWorks, I personally paid for the SolidWorks Training Passport, so I could attend all the courses and sit and pass the Level One Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) exam. EGS supported me in this by paying my wage whilst I attend these courses, the overall goal was to use my ability to start providing a free lance design service. But due to the current situation with COVID 19, EGS had to restructure and sadly I was made redundant at the end of June 2020. • Design and Production Manager
      • Mar 2017 - Mar 2019

I was employed to run a small workshop producing machined MDF kits for a national gambling firm and their POS units in supermarkets and shops across the UK. I also worked on improvements to these design's and producing new concept designs and prototypes to fulfil the changing demands of the large supermarket chains.I oversaw all production and training of all staff, making sure all orders were produced on time and with in budget.I worked closely with the MD on all project estimating cost's and giving detailed reports on all aspects of the running of the workshop, this also included making tough decisions, one of which was the overall viability of the workshop, when you make good profits on the work you complete is good, but that work has to be at a level to sustain the workshop.Unfortunately it was not, but I gave an option of using sub-contractors to the MD, which reduced the profit on each job, But it secured a profit and was not swallowed up by the cost's of a workshop.I may have increased the productivity by 15% over 6 months, but the volume of work was not there. I changed my role at Oadby Plastics from a machinist working in the workshop, to one of two estimators covering 80% of the companies machining quotes for in house machining or using specialist sub contractors. This could comprise anything from Milling, Turning, Fabrication, and moulded parts, from sub contractors, and from our in house workshop machined and drilled strip for chain guards, and complex CNC parts. As the company expanded we won more complex contracts, where time and attention to detail was needed, I was give the role as large project lead, in this role I worked closely with companies such as Ice Magic, a pop up synthetic ice rink Hire company which sold all around the world. I re-designed their barrier system and designed a curling lane and stones for them.I also worked in partnership with John Dennis Coach Builders, on their production of their Fire Engines, converting their designs into machinable plastics kits ready for fabrication, this work expanded into the production of event hire Toilet and shower blocks were you could walk in with a hose and wash every part and not have to worry about any of the structure going rotten as it was all plastic. In this role I started using Solidworks to view and re-engineer customer designsI worked closely with a team of machinists, and reported directly to the Commercial Director. • Circular Saw and Machine Operator
      • Jul 1994 - Sep 2004

I started off as a Circular saw operator, cutting sheets of various grades of plastics into panels for various industrial uses, such as chopping boards for machine stamping, and strips that would then be planed to size working to a +/- 0.2 mm.I then progressed to machining, where we would produce chain guides for conveyors, simple 2 or 3 meter "T" shaped guides up to the conveyor beds them selves, This was before the company had CNC machines. We used a fixed head router and a central pivot point to produce curved plastics conveyor beds with any centre line measurement and degrees of angle. All the work was done by manual set up using the skills of the operator. The company invested in CNC machines as I started my role in the estimating department. • UPVC Window & Door Fabricator
      • Jul 1992 - Jul 1994

I was offered the opportunity to join EMC, where they were looking to branch out in to the production of UPVC windows and Doors, I had been recommended by a friend and previous work colleague of The Right Window Co. EMC had acquired the necessary equipment for the production of UPVC products from a company that was closing down. I was to set up a small workshop producing products for the general public and commercial. The main business of EMC was the spraying and powder coating of products for the automotive industry, which was growing and requiring more and more space. In the early part of 1994 I was given the option to start up my own workshop helped by EMC, and after a lot of research I deemed it not for me, this was due to the saturation of UPVC window companies in our area. I learned a lot from the owners of EGS, mainly on how to treat and interact with your employees, creating the best relationship. Show less
