Bio
Tomas Szemes
Andrej worked in my bioinformatics team for over 2 years. Despite working for us along with his studies, he was able to move forward some of our perspective projects thanks to his creativity and eagerness. In 2017 he was awarded ESHG conference fellowship for his abstract despite being in his 4th semester at the university. And he wasn't particularly bad at studies too. Actually, quite the opposite. Andrej is a bright young talent in bioIT field but at the same time remains humble and likable. He is a good team player.

As a bioinformatics team leader in Geneton company, I supervised Andrej on his first experience with the analysis of genomic data. Andrej proved himself as a great choice for the position, with an excellent combination of skill, interest and responsibility to handle non-trivial problems without straightforward solutions. He is capable to solve assigned tasks independently, but he can also listen to other arguments and revise his methods accordingly. Based on his insight and great questions asked, we repeatedly redesigned our established methods with substantial improvements. Andrej was working mainly on problem of viral identification and classification. He focused his bachelor thesis to discover interaction patterns in viruses infecting specific strains of bacteria. As proposed methods and results have the potential to extend knowledge in the field, we are summarizing results into the scientific publication, with Andrej as the first author. In my sincere opinion, Andrej is highly motivated student with great potential for further personal growth. He works hard to achieve the best results, both at work and school. He has the required skill and motivation to be a significant contribution to any research group.
