As a Chief Engineer / First Engineer, I am responsible for Engine Room Operations, Equipment Maintenance, Spare Parts Inventory, My responsibilities include the Safety of engine room personnel and efficient operation of all engine room and deck associated equipment. Currently working on vessel that uses the ABS program (NS E) to track Preventative Maintenance Spare parts, Inventory and all work done on board the vessel. I assign maintenance and repair tasks to other Engine Department members. In addition, I perform M&R tasks which require higher abilities, knowledge and skills. I maintain records of all parts used, inventory supplies, and order parts, repair and consumables. When vessel is on FOS (Full Operating Status) status, I am responsible for all of the above in addition to the following: • Preparation for maneuvering/entering or leaving port, • Testing of emergency equipment, • Monthly rotation of standby machinery, • Start-up/securing propulsion and electrical plants, auxiliary machinery, and all hotel services • Controlling engine department overtime and tracking STCW work-related requirements • Performance of any vessel repairs or coordination with Industrial assistance • Black out and plant recovery operations • Supervision of watchstanders.
