  • Served as a liaison between Philippine Government, U.S. and Filipino Scientists, and U.S. Peace Corps to promote marine research, education, and outreach programs as part of a collaboration with the Coral Triangle Partnership for International Research and Education project. • Designed and facilitated a ‘Project Development Opportunity’ for Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs) and communities, trained volunteers in laboratory methods for molecular ecology. • Organized and facilitated scientific field expeditions throughout the Philippines. • Worked with Filipino government officials to review and edit scientific research policy, including memoranda of agreement. • Conducted community-based assessments to evaluate food security, solid waste management, water, and agriculture in 15 barangays (neighborhoods) and in 2 high schools. • Organized fisher folk committee in 15 barangays, which meet monthly to discuss their needs, concerns, and document monthly fish catch inventory. • Developed and managed the establishment of 3 marine protected areas, installation of artificial coral reefs, and re-establishment of ordinances and boundaries for an existing marine sanctuary. • Facilitated and conducted reef monitoring and evaluation training, taught snorkel transect methods and manta tow techniques to 40 Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Research Municipal Committee members. • Conducted 18 Coastal Resource Assessments to determine appropriate marine conservation areas. • Designed and facilitated a high school marine education week during which we planted 8000 mangrove propagules over 3 years. • Drafted comprehensive fishing ordinances for Local Government Unit-Corcuera to improve legal protection for marine resources. • Designed and facilitated “Save Our Reef Week” program in Corcuera, Romblon. The program was supported by the Philippines’ Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Governor of Romblon, Congressman of Romblon, and Provincial Fisheries Management Council. Show less
