- Lead mill software development team, responsible for diagnostic tooling, end-user GUI applications, and real-time machine control firmware. - Developed algorithms related to motion control and measurement, similar in spirit to coordinate measuring machine (CMM) functionality. - Helped develop a semi-automated CNC mill calibration mechanism. - Developed a ~20x faster algorithm for computing temporal motion profiles of free-form tool paths with user-specified velocity and jerk constraints. - Developed a hybrid OpenCL/CPU algorithm for efficiently computing material removal rates over an arbitrary 3-axis toolpath. - Co-developed an algorithm for automatically detecting tool breakage, using real-time spectral analysis of accelerometer sensor data. - Developed a variety of experimental milling strategies for decreasing milling time and improving tool wear. - Participated in a six-sigma project to identify root causes of inaccuracy in a structured light 3D scanner. - Mentored the development of improvements to a structured light depth estimation method, considering a variety of approaches in image processing and computer vision. - Prototyped and led the development of a new SLAM implementation, based on a recent academic paper, that greatly improved the ease of use of the scanner and it's reliability in terms of accuracy. - Implemented a complete re-factoring of the image acquisition and 3D reconstruction pipeline, solving several day-1 stability issues in the process. - Researched and prototyped various numerical methods for mesh surface reconstruction from point clouds. - Developed and maintained tooling for testing and prototyping improvements to the scanning software, including real-time 3D visualization. Developed and/or maintained a wide variety of software components used in various solutions for protocol and application testing of mobile devices based on 2G, 3G, and 4G wireless protocols. Efficiently maintained multiple, concurrently developed projects in a variety of languages (C/C++, Java, C#, Perl), platforms (Windows, Linux, Android, VxWorks, Windows Kernel), development environments (Visual Studio, GNU/Linux, Eclipse, Android NDK), and software domains (TCP/IP-based services, user interfaces, embedded device firmware, data analysis, build tools, software libraries). Promptly and accurately analyzed software and protocol issues in both customer-facing and 2nd/3rd line support roles, often requiring entirely self-directed research of 3GPP/3GPP2 specifications, RFC's, source code, prototyping/device characterization, etc. Constantly sought out new techniques in software design in order to apply them to real-world problems in creative ways, drawing ideas from functional programming, domain-specific languages, and denotational design.
