Overview

Whitney Plantation's mission is to educate the public about the history and legacies of slavery in the United States. It is the only plantation museum in Louisiana with an exclusive focus on the lives of enslaved people. Whitney Plantation offers guided and self-guided tours of the 250-year old plantation property, which includes original slave cabins, an 18th century Big House and barn, and numerous dependencies. Four memorials built on the site name and honor people who were enslaved in Louisiana. The Visitor Center features a permanent exhibit about the history of slavery in southeastern Louisiana. In addition to tours, Whitney Plantation hosts lectures, book signings, film screenings and other special events throughout the year.
