Overview
Competing in the CanSat Competition 2022 (USA). ⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤ After securing first place in the UK CanSat Competition and receiving the Safety Champions Award in the Mach-21 CanSat Competition this year the University of Southampton CanSat team is competing in the annual CanSat Competition organised by the American Astronautical Society (AAS). The competition is based in the USA with sponsors including NASA, Siemens, and Lockheed Martin. With over 100 international university teams competing, it is a highly competitive and challenging project aimed to give students the experience of a full design-build-launch lifecycle. What is a CanSat? ⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤⏤ A CanSat is a can-sized ‘satellite’ with sensors that is launched within a small rocket into the lower atmosphere to perform specific tasks whilst descending to the surface using a recovery system (usually a parachute).
