United Southern Bank

Overview

Initially chartered in 1937 as Umatilla State Bank by a group of Umatilla citizens and citrus growers, USB served mainly the greater Umatilla community in its early days as branch banking was not allowed in Florida until the late ‘70s. When the State of Florida authorized branch banking, USB immediately opened branches in several nearby Lake County communities. To reflect our growing geographic footprint at the time, the Umatilla State Bank name was changed to United Southern Bank in 1987, allowing us to preserve the “USB” we were known by in our communities. Today, with 12 offices in Lake and Sumter Counties and over 80 years of community banking experience, United Southern Bank still puts a premium on building strong long-term relationships with our customers. The bank’s officers and directors live here – many of them all their lives – and pride themselves on knowing our customers well and understanding their banking needs. Local ownership and management of the bank truly does make a difference. When working with customers and making business decisions, we simply “do the right thing” each and every day. USB has been profitable throughout its history, which has allowed the bank to build a strong capital base to ensure we can both meet your lending needs and be a safe and secure home for your deposits. Community banking with United Southern Bank offers a personal, friendly, and rewarding style, yet it doesn’t mean technology takes a back seat. United Southern Bank, for years, has been an early adopter of the latest in bank technology as we are committed to staying at the forefront of new technologies such as mobile banking. We are connected with all our communities in many ways, including participating in countless community events and organizations. United Southern Bank understands its responsibilities in the communities we serve and the need to give back through volunteerism, charitable support, and event sponsorship.
