Overview

The Mental Health Legal Advisors Committee (MHLAC) has over forty five years of experience in legal and policy advocacy as well as in expert assistance to those concerned about issues affecting persons with mental health needs. It trains judges, attorneys, and advocates; suggests, interprets, and analyzes legislation; and produces brochures and other publications on legal matters pertinent to its constituents. MHLAC also provides advice and direct representation on a wide variety of issues, including: access to mental health services, treatment rights, equitable treatment in custody and visitation matters, guardianship abuse, insurance discrimination, educational rights, and mistreatment in institutional and community settings.
