Overview
The Human-Centred Design Lab is an agency within the Algonquin College Office of Applied Research an Innovation focused on design research and strategy. The lab works on publicly and privately funded industry projects with clients such as Employment and Social Development Canada and the International Action Network on Small Arms. Working under the purview of the Algonquin College Research and Ethics Board and in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the lab situates evidence-based product and service design within complex environmental, social and economic systems. The lab is closely tied to Interdisciplinary Studies in Human-Centred Design, an Ontario College Graduate Certificate with co-op. At the core of the program are in-class projects with private and public sector industry partners such as Ingenium (Canada's Museums of Science and Innovation) and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. Curriculum is structured to provide college and university students a bridge to a career in design research and strategy, and an opportunity to gain real-world experience by working with real-world clients.
