Overview

We want to empower a generation of “Guardian Ballers” that are happy and healthy, so they can transform the world around them. Guardian Ballers focuses mainly on young people and adults aged 10-25 to empower them to BALL-BE-BETTER. BALL | Enabling engagement, progression and enjoyment in the Sport of Basketball. BE | Educating about mental and emotional well-being, exploring the value of character and identity, as a foundation for impacting current and future life circumstances. BETTER | Facilitating practical experiences with local charities and community organisations, to discover how to make the world better. BALL | Enabling children and young people to engage in and enjoy the game of Basketball. BE | Facilitating opportunities for children and young people to develop a greater understanding of their mental and emotional well-being. Underpinning the value of character, as a foundation for impacting their current and future life circumstances. BETTER | Helping children and young people to see the positive impact they can have as a citizen in the world around them, through exposure to local community organisations and charities. Guardian Ballers is led by Kieran Joseph (Founder and Director), in partnership with Coventry and Warwickshire Mind. This service was birthed in January 2021 through the 'Coop Resilience Fund'; a partnership between Co-op, Mind, SAMH and Inspire to bring communities together to improve mental wellbeing. Further support is provided by Think Active and CLM Youth (the Youth provision at CLM Church Coventry). We are backed by the West Midlands Region of Basketball England. The programme was initiated with the rhythm of delivering cycles of 6-weekly sessions within Coventry and Warwickshire Schools. The provision has and is continuing to evolve to reach the high demand that we are experiencing for this service.
