Overview

The Freedom to Learn network is proudly powered by The Phoenix Education Trust and explicitly explores educational alternatives and promotes human-centred and rights-respecting practice in education in the UK; advocating for more voice and choice for children and young people in how they learn. We do this through various activities including but not limited to the Network, direct project interventions, forums, podcasts, and our centralised directory. In 2013, Dr. Max Hope, University of Hull, worked with a group of others to set up the Freedom to Learn Project, bringing together 7 universities to create a network of teachers, parents, trade unionists, community activists, and young people. At a series of conferences around the UK, over two years, they co-created the Freedom to Learn manifesto.
