Overview

Established as a partnership in 2015 and incorporated as a non-profit in March 2017, Fiddlehead Care Farm (FCF) is an accessible, therapeutic Care Farm, which serves people of all ages and abilities. Although care farming is well established in other countries, FCF is the first Care Farm in Canada. The farm was founded by Stephanie Deaken and Breanne Mathers, two experienced pediatric clinicians. The 50-acre working certified organic farm (certified by ProCert), consisting of 30-acres of conservation (woodland and ponds) and accessible forest trails, provides a natural environment allowing clients with a variety of needs to explore and experience true freedom without boundaries. Clinicians harness the healing and calming powers of nature, gardening and farm life to support their clients’ physical and mental health. FCF provides a full range of counseling, recreation and life skills learning opportunities. Nature exploration and appreciation is at the core of all programming. Support is provided to the general public as well as vulnerable populations not effectively served in traditional clinical, school, camp or recreational settings.
