Overview

Expedition Apparel is a family business based in Melbourne, Australia. It was created by Howard Thompson in 1988. He’s been 50 years in the industry and is currently celebrating his 100th seasonal range. When he started Expedition Apparel back in late 80’s, Howard Thompson, the father, could see into the future. “I could see a future in making clothes for Australians,” said Howard Thompson reminiscing about his 25 years in the industry. Howard has always driven quality with a goal to ensure Expedition Apparel always created a good outfit for a fair price. It was the double pleat trousers that kick-started Expedition Apparel’s business. “It was so baggy. It was all we sold in the first year – burgundy and bottle green!” In 2001 Expedition Apparel introduced its own brand Boston Fine Tailoring and then in 2006 it became the Master Licensee for global fashion house Daniel Hechter. One year later, Howard Thompson handed over the management of the business to his son Peter Thompson. “Fashion changes continually. I can remember the full cut double breasted suits, and at times, lapels stretching from shoulder to shoulder. But then, I can recall the effect of The Beatles, making us all wear narrow, tight fitting suits and narrow lapels,” said Howard Thompson. As well as quality and fair price, Expedition Apparel believes in the co-operation of its staff and its partners. “My father has always had a special knack interacting with staff and customers. But what is really special is he has a sixth sense with fabric,” Peter Thompson, CEO, Expedition Apparel. Expedition Apparel truly provides a fusion of French and Australian fashion labels, designed specifically for the modern market.
