Overview

Chicago Hyperloop is a collaborative organization between the University of Illinois at Chicago and the Illinois Institute of Technology, intending to compete in the 2020 SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition. Our involvement in this international competition will promote student creativity through the designing, building, and testing of a high speed transportation system that utilizes magnetic levitation and electromagnetic propulsion. As our schools are located in Chicago, we would like to change perspectives surrounding Hyperloop transportation. Our team hopes to encourage local businesses, institutions, and universities to connect under this future vision. Our team initially formed during the summer of 2019. After deciding on a collaboration between our two schools, we split into 7 sub-teams: Aerodynamics, Levitation, Electronics and Control Systems, Braking, Structures, Propulsion, and Business. With each team having a focused task, we work more efficiently. Our teams are made up of students from several different disciplines. For our members, we will help prepare them professionally and personally through providing workshops and experience. We believe that a solid foundation for prospective involvement carries opportunities for students to not only develop their abilities, but also work together in solving challenging problems. We hope that the scope of this kind of project will push students to take initiatives and work on more ambitious projects and thereby create momentum in our respective university communities. Not only is Chicago Hyperloop motivated by competition, but we are driven by the opportunity to contribute to this futuristic technology. We hope to influence the public opinion and push for the implementation of this technology in our city.
