Overview

Drodion was developing a passive radar solution for alerting and detecting unwanted drones in any sensitive area such as; airports, prisons, military activities, and events. The solution reached technical readiness level 6 but TRL7 didn't produce the range required, so the company ceased development in November 2019. Most other solutions have to send out power signals to detect drones and this can be costly. Drodion's solutions uses existing signals from satellites to detect the drones passively. This means it just requires simple off-the-shelf components (COTS) including a basic processing unit or smartphone and an antenna (or networked antennae) to work. It offers a significant price advantage over 'active' technologies both in terms of capital and operational costs. The simple passive components also mean it is very low powered and highly portable.
