Overview

Animal Free Research UK (formerly the Dr Hadwen Trust) is the UK’s leading medical research charity that funds and promotes the development of techniques to replace the use of animals in research. For over 40 years, we have played a significant role in funding and promoting techniques to replace the use of animals in biomedical research in diverse areas including cancer, neurological and genetic disorders, autoimmune and infectious diseases. We rely solely on charitable donations and legacies to fund out cutting-edge research. We award grants to scientists in universities, hospitals and research organisations following a rigorous peer-review selection procedure. Only those projects of the highest calibre and the best potential for the replacement of animals are awarded funding. As the leading authority on replacement research, we provide international consultancy and education on the adoption of replacement techniques. We also continue to demonstrate that cutting-edge research methodologies have led, and will continue to lead, to significant advances and innovations in pursuit of more human-relevant approaches without the use of animals.
