Overview

Ammodo, founded in 2011, is a non-profit organisation that initiates and (financially) supports projects that contribute to the development of art and science. The foundation specializes in projects in the field of contemporary visual arts, performing arts and unfettered fundamental science. The primary focus of the foundations activities in the field of contemporary visual art and performing art has been to support the creation, presentation and development of art that is experimental and challenging in nature. Together with the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Van Abbemuseum, Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, If I Can’t Dance I Don’t Want To Be Part of Your Revolution, EYE, P/////AKT, Holland Festival, Nationale Opera en Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater and Toneelgroep Amsterdam amongst others, Ammodo has been involved in the development of various exhibitions, productions and projects such as: Ed Atkins: Recent Ouija, Tino Sehgal: A Year At The Stedelijk, Global Collaborations, Sensory Spaces, Positions, Performance Days, Guestadvisor Circle and Not Making Sense As Something Else. In 2013 Ammodo entered into a partnership with the Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen (KNAW) to encourage unfettered fundamental scientific research through the Ammodo KNAW Award. The Ammodo KNAW Award is granted once every two years and covers all disciplines: Biomedical sciences, Humanities, Natural sciences, Social sciences. The Award consists of eight sums of money each of 300,000 euros that can be used by the recipients to fund either their own research or a research project which they are leading into fundamental scientific issues.
